Advancement in the smart phones: the evolution of iPhone and android

IPhone introduced by Apple inc. in year 1997 was a revolutionary product in the market of Smartphones. Initially it was very expansive costing $500 for its cheapest model. It was first cell phone to use multi-touch interface. It was among the first smart phones that were controlled mainly by touchscreen. Others being HTC touch and LG prada that were also released in 2007.Web browser used by iPhone was much better than that used by its competitors. Arguments were raised at the time of the launch of the smart phones phones about whether it is really a smart phone as the previous generation of the smart phone did not has the ability of the utilization of third party applications. A process named as jailbreaking introduced speedily to provide 3rd party applications unofficially. Due to lack of 3G network at that time in United States the first iPhone did not supported 3G.

In 2008 a cross platform operating system for Mobile Phone was developed that was named as Android. Android can be explained as an Open source platform supported by Google and foremost hardware and software developers like Motorola, eBay, ARM, Intel and HTC that came together to form Open handset alliance.HTC dream was the first phone that used Android Operating System. Software suite contained in the phone was Goggles proprietary applications like calendar, Gmail, Maps and full HTML crome browser Goggles crome lite. Recently Google has developed a translation application that can translate words spoken in other languages as well it can listen to you.

Apple introduced 2nd generation iPhone in July 2008 with 3G support and offering at a lower prize than the previous one. Apple also developed an App store that involved both free and paid applications. It was able to deliver applications developed by 3rd parties directly to iPhone over cellular network and WI-FI without using a Personal computer to download.App store proved a great success for the Apple. In April 2009 RIM introduced its APP store BlackBerry App world. In May 2009 Nokia introduced its Ovi store. In October 2009 Microsoft launched windows marketplace for smartphone.
