Security of Blackberry

Safety is one of our basic needs. We all want to be secure, in every aspect. We make safe homes to live in, try making the best food to be healthy, keep our money in the banks to keep them away from the reach of thieves and try to earn to get every possible arrangement to be prepared. These are few things that we try to maintain the safety of ourselves and our things. But what if your bank account gets hacked by some hacker? What if your online personal information gets in the hands of bad man? And what if the ‘virtual you’ is not just you but someone else too, that too with the help of your cell phone?

Smart phones are the latest buzz in the crime world (cyber crime). Now the cyber criminals have another thing to attack on, previously all we have to worry about was our computer internet but now our smart phones are the personal computers that we carry with us, and even they need security from cyber criminals. Now we need protection for our smart phones as well. The smart phones such as BlackBerry & Apple’s iPhone are used for various purposes from e- mailing to handling a bank account and BlackBerry Videos, etc. In the recent AFP report smart phones are at a high risk of hacking and information theft. Similar to our real world, virtual world is also providing boundless opportunities to crime gangs, which were just a few years back an “unimaginable thing” , now it is very much possible to do because of the improving mobile technology. Smart phones help users in using social networking sites, which increases the problem for crime fighters as these sites are increasingly being used as targets by the cyber criminals as it is easy to gain personal information through these sites, which is helpful in committing further crimes. Some countries have considered all of this as major threat and have banned their senior civil servants & ministers from using iPhones & BlackBerry to prevent cyber attacks.

Although it is making things very much challenging for the crime fighters, even the users can try to help them in minimizing these attacks by taking preventive measures to protect their own files and information’s and by installing software’s to protect their smart phones, whether they are BlackBerry or iPhone. According to AV Comparatives, an Australian security testing lab recommended that every smart phone, should have a antivirus, Firewall, Phishing filter and remote lock features in it?
